Lykins Update – February 27th, 2008
One of the benefits of living here at YWAM Salem, is the gifted speakers who pass through. Yesterday morning at staff meeting we had BJ Johnston share a message. BJ is a performing arts guy. He does an impersonation of John Wesley. I guess you would call it a one man show, 90 minutes worth. Very powerful. We only got about 30 minutes, but what we got was good! BJ will be in Medford, Oregon tonight at the Assembly of God church.
He shared from personal experience as well as the “Wesley” skit. Did you know that Wesley road horseback for over 250,000 miles? How many horses did he wear out? The quote that stuck with me was “May the Lamb receive the just reward of His suffering.” I think the Moravians were the first to speak it, but somehow, it was shared yesterday as well. What a prayer! Now I have begun to speak it in prayer as I pray over my family and their lives.
Then, last night Dan Bauman spoke at our Tuesday evening community service. Dan spent time in prison in Iran. He was falsely accused of espionage. His book is “Imprisoned in Iran” available through YWAM publishing. I just started it. Last night though he spoke of a journey he took last August to Afghanistan. He and some friends went to a people who live in the far north east corner of Afghanistan. He flew to Kabul, then took a bus for three days, truck for three days, horseback and hiked for a total of 9 days travel after Kabul! There is an obscure Kygyse tribe that live at 15,000 feet in elevation there that have never heard the good news that God loved them so much that He sent His son to make a way for them to have fellowship with Him. Good stuff!
Prior to Dan speaking our base leadership felt the need to speak out for personal revival. We usually stick pretty close to a schedule, but last night was wonderfully different. Devan (I don’t know his last name!) led the worship, and as is his habit, he brought us into the presence of God. Revival. Not for them… but for us, for me. “Lord, may the Lamb who was slain receive the reward for His suffering!” May my life bring you nothing but glory. May my heritage bring you praise and honor. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight. Create in me the man you desire. Make me effective in sharing your love and message with all that you give me relationship with.
