Lykins' Update: Sunday October 12th, 2008
Dear friends and family,
This past week we spent at the “Home of Joy” orphanage. It has been very rewarding, and very tiring!
Each morning we start at 9:00 with singing songs, then some coloring, craft, flash cards, (English Training) free play from 11:15 – noon. One of our team comes back from 1-2 for an English lesson. All come back for 3:30-5:30 outing or play time. We have gone to the library twice, the pool three times, mall play area once, and the park once. Serving as youth pastor for Jr. High was good training, but these kids are twice as active with half the attention span! I think it was Dr Dobsen that said, “God put the wiggle in children, it’s NOT our job to take it out.” Forgive me Dr. if I’ve misquoted you, but channeling their energy to something positive draws all the creativity from a person. We are tired, but know that we are loved and appreciated. Jesus used some of his harshest words on behalf of protecting children, and allowing them to come to him. What an awesome responsibility to love these children, and point them to Christ.
Carol and her team left last Wednesday for Myanmar. We heard back today, Sunday that they arrived safely! I take it that you will not receive regular updates from them! I have yet to hear directly from Carol.
We have another week with the Home of Joy children, then on to a village 4 hours from here for the last two weeks of outreach. I don’t know if we will have internet access there. Perhaps from an internet cafe in a near by village. We’ll see.
Thank you for your ongoing prayers! You will share in this harvest!
Grace to you,
Fred and Carol
